Building an experience that suits me

I’m currently studying Information Technology (IT) at the University of Leeds, and I found out about this internship opportunity at my local careers fair. I’m a big lover of food, so working for a company that creates such amazing food brands really attracted me! I also like the fact that I was involved in tailoring an internship program that caters towards my interests; although my background is in IT, I really wanted to broaden my experience within the IT/ business side of the company especially project management, and that was definitely taken into account.

Settling in

I’m currently working within a global team in Supply Planning. Over the past couple of months, I’ve been helping the business to reduce waste and drive efficiency. I’ve also been Project Managing a number of smaller projects to drive efficiencies across our business. A lot of trust is placed in interns at MDLZ, and we get to work on some amazing projects that have a real business impact.

When I first started, I was really pleased I got a chance to work with my predecessor; she really helped me understand work practices and accelerated my learning. Now I’m sitting within a global team, I find that networking is a must and is important. It’s great to be able to say that I’m working for an international company so early in my career.

Mondelez International is different to a lot of places in that there’s always something exciting going on in the workplace… Since I’ve started, we’ve had afternoon teas, BBQs, product samples – all in three months! It’s a fast-paced environment, but the organisation really understands the need for creating a great working environment. I think the people also set this company apart from the rest; as an intern, I work alongside passionate people every day.

I’m only here for a year, so I want to make the most of it and get involved in as much as I can! My manager is really supportive of me getting involved in projects to grow my experience.

Initial attraction

I heard about the Internship opportunities with MDLZ through an email bulletin at Coventry University, and thought it would be a really good opportunity to explore the function and gain experience in a global business.

I’ve noticed since starting that there is a really good amount of freedom; that has to be one of the best things about being part of Mondelez International. There are a lot of opportunities to explore different avenues, and really develop your skills. Since joining, I have been involved in our Cocoa Life project, creating a database of all of our Fairtrade Cocoa farmers, many of whom are based in Ghana and the Cote D’Ivoire. My team partners with the farmers remotely to plot the farms, monitor our impact on the environment, and provide the information that helps allow our business to determine the best environments to grow our much needed cocoa beans!

On top of this, I help produce reports and visual for our Sales team, providing insights on what they’re selling, which are the most popular promotions. This information is vital to making decisions about our Sales strategy.

Top Tips

My advice to people starting an internship at Mondelez International would be to use the wider team around you to help you deliver. You’ll be given challenging projects, but there’s always a specialist around you!

So ask for advice, people are always happy to help.

Perks of the job

We’re really fortunate to work in such a great environment, and the staff shop is definitely a perk!

Favorite Product?

My favorite product is Toblerone – the mix of chocolate and nougat is so good!
